Molokai is rural, quiet and protective of its way of life. There are only a handful of sales a month, prices are the lowest in Maui County, and vacation rental options are very limited. Here’s what buyers should know.

Molokai at a glance
Single-family homes on Molokai have mostly sold for roughly $480,000 to $550,000 over the past two years, and condos often for under $200,000. With so few sales, any one month can look very different from the next, so it pays to look at a full year of sales before you set a price.
Vacation rentals
Molokai is not a vacation rental market. In 2020 Maui County set the number of short-term rental home permits on Molokai to zero. Bill 9 also affects two of the island’s condo complexes, Wavecrest and Ke Nani Kai, where nightly rentals have to end by Jan. 1, 2031. Confirm current rules for any specific property with the Maui County Planning Department.
Molokai is part of Maui County and uses the same rates: $1.65 per $1,000 for an owner-occupied home up to $1.5 million, with a $300,000 home exemption. See the full table on our Maui page.
